Police and fire investigators are looking into a suspicious fire in Beaver Falls on the weekend.

About 16 firefighters responded to a call to a fire at a single detached home on Christie Road at about 3:30 a.m. on Saturday.

Kootenay Boundary Regional Fire and Rescue Chief Dan Derby says it didn’t take long for crews to put the fire out.

“We know the area of origin, but not the cause of the fire,” says Derby. He says investigators are still trying to determine how the fire started.

The fire has forced a family from the home. Derby says the local Red Cross personal disaster team is helping the family find shelter and support.
