First responders were called out with a report of someone in the Columbia River on Tuesday afternoon.

First responders were called out with reports of a person in the water near the Old Trail Bridge on Tuesday afternoon.

A young woman had entered the water by the time the regional rescue boat arrived on scene. Fire Chief Terry Martin says two police officers were already speaking with the the young woman from the shoreline.

"At that point, two of our members entered the water to ensure she did not get caught in the current," explained Martin. "Once safely in the rescue boat she was transported to the Gyro boat launch where the BCAS (ambulance) took over care and transported her to Kootenay Boundary Regional Hospital."
