It is with heavy hearts that the family of Ada Silvia (Fanzolato) Berno announce her passing on July 19, 2016 with her family by her side at the Kootenay Boundary Regional Hospital. Ada was born September 23, 1936 in Poggiana, Provincia de Treviso, Italy.

She is survived by her three children; Mario (Jennifer), Diana (Gary), Nancy (Kenny) and six grandchildren; Mathew (Candice), Amanda (Doug), Nicole, Kevin, Biancha, Stephan, and one great grandson Quintin. Ada is also survived by her eight siblings; Pierina, Anna, Clara, Margarita, Sante, Orfeo, Adriano, and Mario, her nieces and nephews, many friends and family within the community, as well as Nonna’s favorite buddy, the Nutini family dog Milo. Ada is predeceased by her loving husband Sante Berno, her brother Arnaldo Fanzolato, and her parents Luigia and Mario Fanzolato. She married at the young age of 17, and moved to Canada when she was 19, leaving her mother and all of her brothers and sisters behind. She always had an incredible zest for life. Her favorite thing in the world was to cook using her fresh garden ingredients and bake for her family and friends; this passion lead her to a career as the Head Chef and Catering Manager at the Crown Point Hotel, when it was the focal point of the downtown core. They called her the million dollar lady because of the catering business she brought to the hotel. Ada was also an active and valued member of the Sorrelle of the Colombo Lodge and Trevisani del Mondo. More than anything in the world Ada loved her family (un’amore forte). Most recently Mom enjoyed special visits from Dorina, Edda, Gilda and Lysa, which really cheered her up. Any opportunity that she had, Ada went to visit her brothers and sisters in Montreal and Italy. She will always be in our hearts and remembered as an extremely loving, hard working woman, an amazing chef and caterer, mother and Nonna. After being a cancer survivor for 30 years, her body succumbed to other causes. She fought a battle like no other. That strength proved to be a pillar of energy and support for our family. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, July 28, 2016 at 10:30 am at Holy Trinity Catholic Parish with Father Bart van Roijen, Celebrant. Burial will follow the funeral reception at Mountain View Cemetery. Bill Clark of Alternatives Funeral and Cremation Services™ has been entrusted with arrangements. She will be dearly missed by us all. “Ti ricorderemo sempre”. The family would like to thank the loving care and assistance from all the nurses, and doctors in the ICU, the third floor and the ER at the Trail Regional Hospital. Special thanks to Dr. Fischer, Dr. Scotland, and Dr. Hume. As an expression of sympathy, donations to the Kootenay Boundary Regional Hospital and Health Foundation (Oncology Department), 1200 Hospital Bench Rd, Trail BC V1R 4M1, may be made.
