Alf passed away peacefully early Saturday morning with the warmth and love of his family by his side.


Alf was predeceased by his infant son Kevin, his parents, Alfred and Fanny, his sister, Cordelia and brothers; Leslie, Arthur, Kenneth and Peter. He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years Maureen, daughters; Jacqueline Ralph (Ken) and Debbie Ogley (Dave May) and grandchildren; Tara Pollock (Craig), Evan Ralph (Amy), Alicia D’Amico (Adam), and Austin and Logan May. Alf is also survived by his sister Edith, brothers; Dave (Gladys) and Frank (Kath) and many nieces and nephews.


Alf was born in Conisbrough, England. He started work at 15 in the Denaby Coalmines, from there, age 17, he signed up with the Royal Engineers. He returned to Hebden Bridge where he met the love of his life, Maureen. They were married on December 24, 1957. They immigrated to Trail, BC in 1967 with their daughter Jacqueline and not long after, Debbie was born. Alf gained employment at Teck Cominco working in various plants. He retired after 27 years of service.


He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends and was always up for get together’s where he could show off his cooking talents. His hobbies also included camping, fishing, wine/beer making, and growing the biggest and best tomatoes! In the last few years Alf displayed his hidden talent of singing and pleasantly surprised any of those lucky enough to hear him.


Alf’s family would like to thank all the wonderful, caring staff at Poplar Ridge for their hard work and dedication to make sure it feels like home to all of those in their care.


A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, June 3, 2017 at 11:00 am at the Trail Royal Canadian Legion, Branch #11 with Gwen Ziprick, Celebrant. Legion Members and Ladies Auxiliary, please attend. Al Grywacheski of Alternatives Funeral and Cremation Services™ has been entrusted with arrangements.
