Jan 11, 1921 - Mar 23, 2018
Aged 97 Years - It is with profound sadness that the family announces the passing of our beloved husband and father, grandfather and great grandfather, Andrew "Andy" Andrews.

Born in Trail, his family moved to Quebec when he was two. He and his brother Garnet drove all the way back to Trail in 1940, traveling 2 weeks in a model A Ford. Andy gained employment with CM&S (now Teck) in 1940 before he volunteered to serve his country, joining the British Columbia Dragoons. He was sent to the UK in 1941, seeing action in The Netherlands, Germany, France and Belgium before returning to Trail in 1945.

While stationed in Wales he met and married Muriel, who followed him to Canada, arriving as a War Bride on a returning troop ship into Halifax, finally arriving by train into Castlegar in 1946.

A millwright by trade, he worked 41 Years for Cominco. He was an active member of the Shaver's Bench Improvement Association, and with Fred Stainton published a monthly newspaper called the "Bench Builder" for the residents. Ultimately, the association left a lasting legacy for the neighbourhood, Pople Park. He continued his service to the community, being active in the Scouting movement. He was a Mason for 67 years and a Past Master of the Trail Masonic Lodge, as well as being a member of the Shrine club, and a Past Patron of the Order of the Eastern Star.

Andy loved the outdoors, and as a family there were many camping trips that included fishing, hiking and berry picking. In his 37 years of retirement, he built a home at Balfour where he was surrounded by nature and he and Muriel traveled abroad on several occasions. In recent years he moved to Castlegar and he has been a resident of Castlewood Village for the last five years.

Above all Andy was a quiet, gentle, harmonica playing man, with a twinkle in his eye and sharp sense of humour.

He is survived by his loving wife of 72 years, Muriel Edith (Smith) of Pembroke in Wales, UK and his surviving children Raymond, Heather and Sharon. He was a wonderful grandfather to 11 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren - and he has a large family of in-laws, nieces and nephews in Canada, US and the UK.

Andy was predeceased by his parents Garnet Wolsley and Josephine Dewey and more recently, his son Brian David on 9 Mar 2018. He was also predeceased by his brothers, Garnet and William.

Cremation has already taken place and a family graveside ceremony will be held at a later date. As an expression of sympathy, please support a charity of your choice or the Kootenay Boundary Regional Hospital Health Foundation at 1200 Hospital Bench, Trail, BC, V1R 4M1 or online at www.kbrhhealthfoundation.ca.
