July 1, 1926-May 13, 2014

Erich passed away peacefully after a life well lived. He was born outside Vienna Austria and immigrated to Canada in 1954. He explored west to BC and married Margaret in 1961. They eventually settled in Trail and raised 3 children. He worked as a lumber salesman and then as a steam engineer for Celgar Pulp Mill, retiring in 1990.

He was a strong, independent, disciplined and determined man. He always had a steadfast support and love for his family. His Austrian heritage infused him with a passion for downhill skiing which he actively shared with his children and grandchildren. We thank dad for his “good nose and taste buds” which we’ve all inherited. We enjoyed many years of yummy family dinners and fine wine. He was a great cook and his schnitzel, cucumber and tomato salad recipes will be recreated over and over again by his children and grandchildren.

Mom and dad really enjoyed their retirement. They loved to travel to warm places to swim with the fish and explore new places. Australia, Mexico and Hawaii were their favourites. They were active volunteers in Trail for many years. Early mornings would find them the Aquatic Centre staying fit and inspiring the younger generation. Dad was a man of keen intelligence, the smartest person we’ve ever met. He was a life longer learner and encouraged us to seek out more knowledge. He loved fishing, skiing, cooking, eating, reading and life. His children, Diane, Ralph and Kurt will miss him dearly. His grandchildren, Katie, Conrad, Hailey and Brianna and Aidan were a special delight to him. There will be no service at his request. Online condolences can be left www.myalternatives.ca. If anyone is inclined to make a donation, dad believed everyone should have food to eat. Donations can be made to the Salvation Army Family Services, 730 Rossland Avenue, Trail BC, V1R 3N3 (250)364-0445.
