Freer, Gary, 77

It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Gary Wayne Freer of Trail, B.C. on Monday, July 17, 2017, surrounded by family at the Bethany Care Center in Calgary. He was born on September 26, 1939 in Brandon, MB to Thomas and Margaret (McMullen) Freer and moved to Trail with his family when he was nine. It was here that he met and married his sweetheart, Diane Smyth, and apprenticed at Cominco, where he worked for more than 30 years as a pipe tter and later in various management roles. After retiring, he enjoyed traveling in his motorhome and spending time with his children and grandchildren. He loved a good project and was always there with a helping hand. Gary is survived by his wife Diane of 53 years, sons Brent (Twyla), Scott (Nadine) and Todd (Amanda), all of Calgary, AB, brother Don (Diane) of Victoria, B.C., ten loving grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents. Gary was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend to all. A special thank you to the sta of Bethany Care Centre (Calgary) and Poplar Ridge (Trail) for their loving care and support over the past year. As per Gary’s wishes, there will not be a service. In lieu of owers, donations may be made to the Trail Hospital Foundation.
