March 17, 1949 - July 13, 2018
Gerry was born in Trail, BC on March 17, 1949 and passed away in Barrhead, AB on July 13, 2018.

He is survived by his wife Sherry, son Jon, mother Helen Cavallin, sisters Betty Ann (Wayne) Richards, Margaret McCall, Erna McCall and brother-in-law Delmar (Maria) Permann. Also, many nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews and great, great nieces and nephews who dearly love their "Uncle Sherry and Auntie Gerry".

After graduating from J.L. Crowe in 1967 Gerry joined the RCMP, completing basic training in Regina in 1968-1969. He was stationed in Alberta after training where he met the love of his life, Sherry Permann. They were married in Drumheller, AB in 1970.

They lived in various locations throughout Canada while Gerry was with the RCMP. He stayed in the force for 11 years, performing a variety of duties and his last position was in the Identification Branch. They then returned to Alberta where Gerry obtained work in the Oil Patch, becoming a Red Seal Certified Electrician. Their beloved son Jon was born in 1984.

Gerry was hard-working, committed, and a life-long learner. He took courses to refine his skills and learn new skills his entire life, and eventually became a Programmer in the Oil Patch. At the end of his career he owned his own company which contracted out to various energy sector companies in northern Alberta.

Gerry was a quiet, private and independent person. He had a love of nature fostered by being a Boy Scout and enjoyed camping, hiking, swimming and fishing.

Gerry had a keen mind with interests in technical and scientific fields. Knowledgeable and passionate about issues that concerned him, he was a caring person who spoke up for, defended and assisted others. He was a good artist, creating cartoons and drawings as a hobby. Some of his drawings were displayed by the RCMP during their 100th Anniversary in 1973. He was also an accomplished photographer. Gerry had a wry, poignant sense of humor and was a unique individual who will be greatly missed.

Cremation has taken place. There will be no public service, at his request. There will be a private family ceremony at a later date. Gerry loved animals and owned several rescue dogs and cats over the years. As an expression of sympathy donations to the SPCA or any other animal rescue organization would be appreciated.
