December 6, 1936 – March 30, 2014. It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our husband, grandfather, brother and friend.

Verne was born and raised in Trail. In 1958 he married Carol Bingham, and their only child Bruce was born in 1963. Verne enjoyed many sports, curling and golf were his two true passions. He loved to gather after a golf game kibitzing with his buddies while enjoying a beer or two. His humour and quick wit kept everyone on their toes. Verne was an amazing caricature artist and entertained us all with his creative ability to transform a simple number or letter into a funny character. Verne loved to entertain, we will all miss his amazing cooking skills.

Verne started his working career with Cominco, followed by a long career with Imperial Oil and Mitchell Automotive. During this time Verne & Carol made several moves, eventually settling in Edmonton and making that their home for 29 years. In the fall of 2011 they moved back to their hometown of Trail to be closer to family, reconnect with old friends and enjoy their retirement.

Verne is survived by his wife Carol, granddaughters Christina (Cory), Brianna and great grandson Rorik, step granddaughters Taylor & Montana, sister Irene (Norm) Arnott , brother David (Sondra) Mawdsley, brothers-in-law Pie Laface, and Tommy (Sherry) Bingham and many nieces and nephews. Verne was predeceased by his son Bruce, parents Dave & Kay Mawdsley, in-laws Thomas & Marion Bingham, and sister-in-law Mary Ellen Laface.

Respecting Verne’s wishes there will be no service. Anyone wishing to make a donation in Verne’s memory may do so to a charity of ones choice.
