It is with our deepest sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved father, Hedayat Pourmokhtari on Wednesday September 30th, 2015. We will miss his love, kindness, knowledge, sense of humor and love of poetry.

Hedayat was born on May 30th, 1931, in Yazd, Iran. After marrying his wife Leyla, Hedayat journeyed to Abhar, a small city in northwest Iran, where he would live with his wife and children for the next 9 years. It was there that he began spreading the teachings of the Bahá’í Faith, which celebrates universal peace and unity. After which he moved to Shiraz, however, in the turmoil of the Islamic Revolution of 1979 he witnessed the destruction of his home at the hands of Islamic radicals. Hedayat, like so many of Bahá’ís, was captured and imprisoned for some months for no other crime than membership in the Bahá’í community. Nothing could destroy his faith or prevent him from serving the community. In 2001, he relocated to Canada, eventually settling down in Trail, to spend the rest of his days with his sons. Hedayat was a loving and caring man of faith as well as a kind father, devoted husband, and adored grandfather.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years Leyla, their six children: Ata (Teresita), Aman (Rose), Nosrat (Mahnaz), Anise (Azita), Bahador (Negar), and Vahid (Bahareh), fifteen grandchildren: Navid, Navida, Shahine, Shamim, Amanda, Nabil, Bayan, Nadeem, Burhan, Sina, Keyvaun, Varga, Ilya, Melody and Mahan, and three great-grandchildren: Mia, Ahveen, and Mouness who will forever cherish his memory.

Funeral services will be held at “Carberry’s Chapel,” 1298 Pine Ave, on Friday October 9, 2015 at 10:00am, followed by a graveside service at Mountain View Cemetery. Afterwards, a reception will be held at Aman and Rose’s home at 1201 Paquette Dr. Trail, BC. Bill Clark of Alternatives Funeral and Cremation Services has been entrusted with the arrangements.
