Herman Pitman

PITMAN, Herman passed away peacefully on November 17, 2016 at Columbia View Lodge. He was born on April 1, 1939 in Millertown, NL.

At the age of 16, Herman moved to Vancouver, BC with his parents. Following high school graduation, he attended UBC and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Forestry. He eventually moved to Trail, BC to work at Cominco where he stayed until his retirement in 1997. Herman met Edith in Trail, BC and in 1965 they married. He was an avid gardener and reader, with a special interest in history. Herman was also fond of travelling.He and Edith especially enjoyed going on cruises, and taking trips to Las Vegas.

Herman is survived by his wife of 51 years Edith, children; Bob (Shirley-Anne), Tim (Becky), Tricia (Larry), grandchildren; Melissa, Olivia, and Jeremy, brother; Harvey (Joan), nephews; Len (Val), David (Audrey), niece; Beth as well as numerous great-nieces and great-nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents Elias and Bessie Pitman.

The family would like to thank the staff of Columbia View Lodge for their compassionate care over these last few months, and to the doctors who have cared for Herm over the years.

A Celebration of Life will take place on Saturday, November 26, 2016 at St. Andrew’s Anglican Church in the Iona Hall (basement) at 1:30 pm. Alexandra Butts of Alternatives Funeral and Cremation Services™ has been entrusted with arrangements.

As an expression of sympathy, donations may be made in Herman’s honour to St. Andrew’s Anglican Church or the Canadian Cancer Society at c/o 15-835 Spokane St, Trail, BC, V1R 3W4.
