June 7, 1931 - June 30, 2018
It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Irene, on Saturday, June 30, 2018 at Columbia View Lodge, Trail, BC at the age of 87 years. Irene was born in Lancashire, England and immigrated to Calgary, Alberta, Canada in 1954 with her first husband Rene' Goth.
She was first and foremost a hardworking and dedicated mother and grandmother, raising 5 children. She was an avid outdoor enthusiast and climber in the "Rockies". In 1972 she found her permanent home in the Kootenays, with the love of her life James Burns, where she would spend the remainder of her days. Family and social time was of paramount importance to "Nan" and along with "Papa Jim" they were the center of our clan's life and the hub of family festivities, especially Christmas and summer holidays. Nan loved her food, a glass of red wine shared with friends, raucous laughter and storytelling. These were her happiest and most relaxing moments. She loved to travel but the Kootenays were always home. In her twilight years, Mum again found laughter with Phil, spending many weekends at Kootenay Lake and travels in Europe. She was a Wolf Cub leader, a Brownie leader and an Honorary Lifetime Member of the Royal Canadian Legion.
We love you and miss you forever.
She is survived by her children, Stephen (Shauna), Katharine (Marty) Martin, Graham (Gillian), Peter (Deborah Garrah) and Janet (Jamie Allen) Goth. She is also survived by 12 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
She is also survived by her younger sister Anne Wilson and extended family in Lancashire, England. Irene was predeceased by her husbands Rene' Goth, James Burns and Philip Lifely as well as her brother John Bland (England).
Our many thanks to the staff at Columbia View Lodge for their dedicated care of Mom these past 3 years.
