Jacob Harry Krahn was born July 7th, 1938 and passed away on September 22, 2014.

Jacob was predeceased by his parents, Jacob and Agnes Krahn, parents-in-law Samuel and Margaret Haggerty, brother Lawrence Krahn, brother-in-law Victor Dombrowsky and sister-in-law Cathy Collier. He is survived by his wife of 47 years Linda; his children Mona Krahn (Chuck Wigger), Jacob M. Krahn (Kerri Fertuck), and Cynthia Graff (Kevin); and his grandchildren, Liam and Logan Wigger, Brett Fertuck (Chevey White and great grandson Weston) and Ryan Fertuck, and Addison, Alex, and Isabelle Graff; sister Lory Dombrowsky, brothers Ervin Krahn (Gloria) and Ken Krahn (Alice), sisters-in-law Sharon Haggerty and Lois Harrison, brother-in-law Arthur Collier, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Jake was born on the farm at Section 3, Township 18, Range 10, West 3, Saskatchewan, an address just north of Herbert, Saskatchewan. He grew up in the Herbert area and graduated from Herbert High School in 1957. Jake attended Teachers College in Moose Jaw graduating in 1959 and received his Education Degree from the University of Regina in 1970. His first teaching job was in Donnellyville, SK followed by Ernfold, SK and then Regina. He ended his teaching career in 1976 as a Vice Principal for the Regina Public School board. At that time he started farming full time in the Belle Plaine, Saskatchewan area with his father-in-law Sam Haggerty. He continued to farm until his retirement in 2001.

In 1967 Jake married Linda Rae Haggerty at Wesley United Church and they took up residence in Regina where they each held teaching positions. Together they raised three children. During his years in Regina, Jake was an active volunteer; he was a T-ball coach, a scout leader, and a Synchronized swimming referee; he served as the president of the Regina Synchro club for several years. Jake supported his children by driving them and attending swim meets, wrestling meets, and Regina Police Band activities. Jake sang with the Regina Barbershop Chorus, where he also held positions on their board, he was a member of the Board of Whitmore Park United Church, and he was a member of the Regina Exhibition Board. He was a long time member of the Board of the Regina Exhibition Farm Progress Show and was the Chairperson for the show in its 10th annual year.

After retirement Jake and Linda moved to Genelle, BC where Jake has enjoyed curling, golfing, gardening, and visiting with many friends. His new joy was travelling. Together he and Linda visited many countries around the world. A special trip was a visit to Germany where he met his father’s family.

Jake will always be remembered as a people person. He never was in a situation where he didn’t make friends. He will be sadly missed by family and friends.

Funeral services will be held in Castlegar United Church with Greg Powell presiding on Saturday September 27th, 2014 at 2 p.m. with a reception to follow in the church basement. Interment will be at a later date at Stoney Beach Cemetery in Saskatchewan.
