Johannes (John) Ganzert

April 14, 1927 - September 30, 2017

Dad was born in Reward, Saskatchewan, the fourth of 8 children.

He is survived by his wife of 70 years Louise (Ermacora) his four children Karren Hedge (Cal), Darrel Ganzert (Valerie), Tish Farrell (Patrick) and Kevin Ganzert (Kathy) his 3 sisters Judy Ewing, Monica Schlosser, Doreen Wurmlinger, his brother Wendlin, 11 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Dad came to BC in search of work in 1947, and while on the train heard that Cominco in Trail was hiring. He started work in the melting room soon after his arrival.

Each month he sent a portion of his pay to his parents through the Bank of Montreal. While at the bank, he noticed a beautiful young teller and determined to ask her to a dance. Mom accepted, and they were married in 1948.

Dad was always grateful for the opportunity to have full time employment, find a loving wife and raise a family. Dad and mom raised us in a loving, caring home environment where a fridge full of good food was more important than a new car.

Dad loved his wife and his family deeply. He was a kind, honest man who believed that you had to both work hard and keep learning to become a success.

He always saw the positive in people and would lend a hand when needed. He was an avid gardener, learned to wire houses, skied with his 4 kids, built his own home, golfed and curled.

After retirement he and mom traveled extensively. His quiet positive way will be missed by those who knew him.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Holy Trinity Catholic Parish on Friday, October 13, 2017 at 10:30 am with Father Francis dela Cruz, Celebrant. Jordan Wren of Alternatives Funeral and Cremation Servicestm has been entrusted with arrangements.

As an expression of sympathy, donations in Dad's name to the Heart and Stroke Foundation at 4 - 1551 Sutherland Avenue, Kelowna, BC, V1Y 9M9 would be welcomed.
