Laurel (Laurie) Stanford DeWitt was born in Brandon, Manitoba to Maurice and Emily DeWitt on May 19, 1943. A loving husband, father, grandfather, friend and brother passed away peacefully with his family by his side on June 23rd, 2016 at the Kootenay Boundary Regional Hospital in Trail, BC. He was proud, strong, courageous, respected and a positive influence on so many. He truly was our family’s rock and will be deeply missed. Laurie enjoyed spending time with his friends and family and was involved in activities such as golfing, hiking, skiing, cycling, camping and walking with his little four legged buddy, Dakota. He was always happy to lend a helping hand with projects and was a gifted craftsman. Much of his skill and handiwork can be seen throughout the Birchbank golf course, as he was more than happy to volunteer much of his time and knowledge building and fixing things. He leaves his beloved wife Linda, son Brett (Nancy), daughter Terre (Sam), grandchildren Brandon (14), Kaitlin (13), Taryn (11), Sierra (6), Clair (3), and sister Mauriette, As an expression of sympathy, donations in Laurie’s memory can be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association at 1589 Sutherland Avenue Kelowna, BC, V1Y 5Y7.

The family would like to convey their sincerest heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Wilson and the caring compassionate medical professionals of the KBRH. Laurie’s Celebration of Life will be held at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #11in Trail on Saturday, July 2nd, 2016 at 1:00 pm. Al Grywacheski of Alternatives Funeral and Cremation Services™ has been entrusted with arrangements.
