Lavona Gordon, of Trail, passed away on April 23, 2017 surrounded by her family. Lavona Rhoda Emma Gordon was born on January 4, 1928, the oldest of ten children, to Wilmer and Edna Goodwin in Beechy, Saskatchewan.

On October 7, 1953, she married George Edwin Gordon. The couple lived in several rural communities in Saskatchewan, followed by a number of years in Saskatoon. Lavona, George and family moved to Trail, BC in 1971. Lavona worked many years as a meat clerk at Mac’s Low Cost until retirement.

Lavona was a strong and caring woman. Her greatest accomplishment was the unconditional love she gave to each and every one of her family members and friends. Lavona loved to bake and cook, many of her friends and neighbours looked forward to her visits with treats in hand.

Lavona was an avid sports fan who enjoyed all levels of hockey. She especially loved to attend and cheer when family members were involved in any sports event. She attended many of her sons curling games and loved watching the Briers and Scotties. She was truly a loyal Blue Jays fan rarely missing a game.

Lavona was a life-long member of the United Church of Canada, as well as an ambitious member of the Eagles Lodge Ladies Auxiliary and held several offices in the organization. Lavona also enjoyed numerous years of volunteer service for the Trail Stroke Recovery Program and the Trail Food Bank.

Lavona, was predeceased by her husband George, parents Wilmer and Edna Goodwin, and brother Byron.

Lavona will always be loved and remembered by her children: Murray Gordon (Gail Rebelato) of Trail, Leora Green (Don) of Nelson, Linda Sherbinin (Ron) of Kelowna, and Grant Gordon (Gioconda) of Nelson as well as her six grandchildren Rhian (Chris), Taryn (Scott), Brayden, Jessica, Shelly (Doug) and Gord and six great-grandchildren Jonah, Kaiden, Tyler, Ryan, Kaitlyn and Joshua whom she adored. Lavona is also survived and remembered by her siblings Laverne (June), Pearl, Arlo (Sally), John, Charlie (Judy), Beatrice (Syd), Art (Sandra) and Gloria (Lynn), as well as Aunts Beatrice McCord and Joan Arntsen, sister-in-law Shirley and many, many nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life will be held in the Trail United Church on Friday, April 28, at 11:00am , officiated by Liz Berglund. As an expression of sympathy memorial donations may be made to Diabetes Canada www.diabetes.ca or the Canadian Cancer Society www.cancer.ca
