Leona Szkica (nee Lundquist)
It is with profound sadness we announce the passing of our beloved Wife, Mom & Mormor Leona Szkica (nee Lundquist) who passed away Oct. 29, 2017 after a courageous battle with esophageal cancer.
She was an extraordinary soul who touched the lives of everyone she met.
Leona was born March 25, 1950 in Trail, BC and raised in Castlegar.
Her compassionate nature drew her to a career in health care.
She thoroughly enjoyed time with her family, camping, the outdoors & X-country skiing. She took great pride in her Scandinavian heritage and was an active member in the Sons of Norway.
Leona is predeceased by her parents Per and Beatrice Lundquist.
Leona is survived by her husband Dan Szkica, daughters Michelle Szkica, Kerry Szkica, granddaughter Alyssa Berdusco, brother Ray Lundquist (Jean), nephews Russell Lundquist (Angie) and Ryan Lundquist.
We would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to Sharon Stein for providing exceptional care and compassion to Leona and support to our family.
To Chris Hardman, thank you for your loving support shown to our family which helped us navigate this difficult time.
Many thanks to Dr. VanVliet, Dr. Baxter, the staff at KBRH, as well as Talarico Place; your professionalism and care meant so much.
To friends and family who visited Leona in hospital, sent cards, flowers, provided lovely baking and meals, your thoughtfulness was greatly appreciated.
Leona loved all animals and requested in lieu of flowers a donation be made in her name to the SPCA.
A celebration of life will be held at a future date.
