It is with great sadness that the family of Leonardo Mazzei announces his passing on Friday, February 26, 2016 at 85 years of age. Leonardo passed away peacefully at home in the presence of his loving family by his side.

A loved, cherished husband, father, uncle and nonno, Leonardo will be sadly missed by his wife of 63 years, Maria; children Frank (Ruby), Terry (Wendy), Ronnie (Debbie), Sandra (Steve); grandchildren Elyse (Adam), Cyrene, Amanda, Steven, Jarrett, Brandon, and Gracelyn; great-grandchildren Madilynn and Kane and his closest nieces, nephews and cousins.

Born in Bocchigliero, Cosenza, Italy, he is predeceased by his parents Francesco and Caterina, brothers Angelo, Giacomo, and Rocco and sisters Teresina and Filomena.

When he immigrated to Canada in 1951, Leonardo came directly to Trail to pursue a better life. He spent some years building many homes in Trail, gained employment with Cominco as a journeyman carpenter and retired with 35 years of service. After retiring to Christina Lake in 1988, Leonardo took full advantage of hunting and fishing. He loved wine making, vegetable gardening, watching hockey games and reading. In recent years, he valued his walks through the Waneta Estates neighbourhood and enjoyed conversations with his coffee buddies at the mall. Leonardo was a long time member of the Cristoforo Colombo Lodge and enjoyed the fellowship of his friends.

The family wishes to thank Dr. Hii, Dr. Jacobsen, the nursing staff, care aids and especially Teresa Nutini and Vivian Johnson for palliative support.

Expressions of condolence can be made in the form of donations to the Canadian Cancer Society in Leonardo’s name: 908 Rossland Ave., Trail, B.C. V1R 3N6 or to Kootenay Boundary Regional Hospital at 1200 Hospital Bench, Trail, B.C. V1R 4M1
