It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our loving mother and nonna, Luisa Mauro.
Mom was born in Grimaldi, Italy on April 16, 1931 and passed away in Trail, BC on December 25, 2017 at the age of 86.
In 1954, she immigrated to Canada with her sisters, brother and mother, to meet up with the rest of her family. It was in Trail that she met our dad, Frank Mauro. They married and over the course of 5 years had four children. Dad worked several jobs so that mom could stay at home. She filled her days lovingly caring for her children; sewing their clothes, canning the vegetables and preserving the fruit from the enormous garden that she and dad maintained. Being the amazing Italian mother that she was, spending time cooking for her family and keeping a clean home were also a priority.
As grandchildren were added to the family, twelve in all, mom and dad provided childcare and developed beautiful relationships with each of them. Those relationships thrived throughout mom's life.
Mom also enjoyed many close relationships with numerous nieces, nephews and neighbours, often entertaining them in her home. She would always have tea or coffee and of course goodies for anyone who came to visit.
Mom is survived by her loving children: Joe (Patti), Mary, Santina (Al), and Denise, twelve grandchildren and their significant others, as well as eleven great grandchildren with a twelfth on the way.
She is also survived by her sisters, Ada DeVuono (Franco) and Mary Ganzini (Leo) along with numerous nieces, nephews and their families.
Mom missed dad, speaking of him continually over the past ten years. She was looking forward to being reunited with her husband of 52 years.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Holy Trinity Catholic Parish on Friday, January 26, 2018 at 10:30 am with Father Francis dela Cruz, Celebrant. Bill Clark of Alternatives Funeral and Cremation Services has been entrusted with arrangements.
As an expression of sympathy, donations may be made to St. Michael's Catholic School at 1329 4th Ave, Trail, BC, V1R 1S3.
