Marie Isabelle Dahl (nee Lawson)

November 30, 2013

Marie Isabelle (Lawson) Dahl passed away quietly on November 30, 2013.

Marie was born June 9, 1936 in Lethbridge, Alberta, to Robert Lawson and Leone Nilsson. She lived with her family and a large extended family in Lethbridge and Raymond, in southern Alberta, and married Myron Dahl on 23 June, 1956. Their son Robert resides in Trail, daughter Elaine (LaRocque) resides in Fruitvale, and daughter Colleen (Croft) resides in Raymond, Alberta. Predeceased by her father, Robert, in 1975 and her mother Leone in 1999, and son-in-law Gary Croft in 2003, she is survived by her sister Sharlene Welsh and brother Ernest Lawson.

Marie enjoyed sports in her youth, playing basketball on her School Team. She always enjoyed swimming, and many of her family's recreations focused on trips to Rosen Lake, and Mara and Shuswap Lakes, often with members of her extended family from Alberta. As more of her 12 Grandchildren and 8 Great-grandchildren arrived, the family started vacationing in the Kootenays, with stays at favourite fishing spots on Kootenay Lake. She was very proud of all of her Grandchildren and Great-grandchildren, rejoicing as each arrived, whether here in BC, or when they could arrive from Alberta. They all looked forward to opportunities to visit, receiving warm hugs and kisses from her.

She loved a variety of "fabric crafts", quilting, sewing and knitting, decorating her home and making gifts for family and friends. She served actively in her church community. She also loved to cook, and family meals were a wonderful treat.

She was always active in the Trail Ward of the LDS Church, serving in a number of teaching and leadership positions, and at times hosting Church meetings and Activities in the family home near the Trail LDS Chapel. Their home was a hub for family and friends, welcoming newcomers and old friends alike. She loved "old-fashioned" activities, and for years was a busy participant in the Trail Branch's hand-dipped Chocolates fund-raiser. All of her Grand-children will remember her homemade Marshmallow Easter Eggs, and the Easter Egg Hunt for everyone. Many long-time friends in the Church and the community are saddened by her sudden passing, and will miss her sweet spirit.

Marie moved to Columbia View Lodge in 2010. Always dreaming of returning home, she came to enjoy the company of the Care Aides and Nurses, making several close friends among them. She continued to help others serving as the President of the Resident's association at the time of her passing. We are grateful for the care and support they afforded.

A Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, December 4, 2013 at 1:00 pm at Trail LDS Chapel at 3585 Laburnum Drive, Trail. Jordan Wren of Alternatives Funeral and Cremation Services™ has been entrusted with arrangements.
