1940 – 2016

It is with the greatest sorrow that the family of Mavis Campbell announce her passing on the morning of January 6, 2016 following a brave battle with cancer. We wish to share that our mother demonstrated an admirable inner strength, an amazingly sunny disposition and a remarkable sense of humour - all of which never wavered throughout the duration of her illness.

Mavis moved to Fruitvale with her parents and siblings as a young child and it was there that she spent the majority of her life. In 1960 Mavis married Val Campbell whom she had known since early childhood and they went on to have and raise four children: Kim (Graham), Robin, Vince and Mark. Mavis worked for many years as a custodian. She was a hardworking, conscientious employee who enjoyed her career before finally retiring in May of 1994.

In 2012 Mavis relocated to Edmonton, Alberta as she wanted to enjoy spending more time with her daughters and their families. She especially delighted being in the company of her grandchildren: Darilyn, Jaryd, Shane, Joshua, Jonathon (Melissa) and Andrea and great-grandchildren: Teri-Anna, Todd, Clorissa, Chloe, Tristan, Jamie, Taviour, Charlie and George.

She is survived by her sister Darlene (Al H), her brother Lloyd and her sisters-in-law Mary, Grace, Betty-Lou (Joe), Jeannie (Don) and Debbie (Victor). She was predeceased by her husband, Val in 1997 as well as her sisters: June, Anna and Vonnie; her brothers: Garry and Dan; her brothers-in-law: Alfred, Doug, Al L, and Delbert and her sister-in-law Bunny.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, January 16, 2016 11:00 am at St. Paul’s United Church in Fruitvale with Reverend Michael Hare officiating. Al Grywacheski of Alternatives Funeral and Cremation Services™ has been entrusted with arrangements.
