Mildred Evelyn Gurney of Fruitvale, B.C. passed away peacefully Wednesday March 15, 2017 at Kootenay Boundary Regional Hospital. Mildred was born in Port Alberni B.C. January 27, 1927.

In her early years she made many friends whom she kept in touch with thoughout her life. Mildred spent most of her married life in the bakery business with her husband Fred, in Campbell River on Vancouver Island. They later retired to Saltspring Island in 1969 to build Green Acres, a small tourist resort. They enjoyed their motor home, golfing and cards with friends. Later in life Mildred loved to travel the world, visiting many countries. When she stopped travelling and settled down with Benji her much loved dog, she did so in Fruitvale, B.C. to be near family. Mildred kept life busy playing cards, bingo, and other activities with her friends at the Manor and Mountainside.

Mildred cherished her family and loved to spend time with them, whether it be on vacation in Christina Lake or playing Canasta after dinner. She is survived by her children Dennis Gurney (Margaret), Sheila Weekes (Jerry) and Maureen Gurney (Ken Goessaert), 7 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. She is predeceased by her husband Fred Gurney and her parents Charles and Margaret Fawcitt.

The memorial service will be held at the Alliance Church of Trail at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, March 25, 2017, followed by a luncheon at the church.
