In memory of Peter Wilson Neill of Rossland, BC, who died June 20th, 2016 in Vancouver BC. Peter is much loved and missed by his mother Phyllis; siblings Avaleigh, Allison (Pete), and Mike (Kelly); nieces and nephews Carmen, Sam, Emily, and Aidan; extended family in Manitoba and Ottawa. Peter was predeceased by his father Donald. Peter was born in Lillooet, BC, raised Ottawa, but home was his mountain paradise of Rossland, where he lived happily for 30 years. He loved the outdoors, skiing, hiking, biking and fishing lakes and streams. He enthusiastically participated in both the development of the Seven Summits Trails, and Streamkeepers in the Columbia Basin. He could be seen casting from a favourite spot on the Columbia River or paddling his belove river boat along the Slocan River and Champion Lakes. For many years he loved cruising mountain roads in his restored dark green MG or rattling around in “Ol’ Brown”. His truck painted with 17 cans of spray paint. In more recent years, Peter discovered summer golf at Redstone and winter curling at Rossland Curling Cub. With his athletic ability and delight in friendly competition, he developed considerable skills on the greens and on the rink. He enjoyed coming down to the Lower Mainland where he would head to a golf supply store to test more gear. Peter lived with kidney failure for 17 years. He approached the ups and downs of life in his inimitable style, staying active throughout a life of hospital visits and dialysis. He was active to the very end of his life, rarely missing a day on the golf course. Redstone Golf Course became his second home, and he convinced the management to build a stocked fish pond into the landscape. Redstone management wishes to honour Peter’s friendship and contribution with a memorial bench overlooking the pond and fairways. Peter’s family wish to acknowledge his lifelong friends in Rossland for the love and support extended to Peter over all these years. As well, a special thank you to staff of the Renal Unit and Renal Home Unit at Trail Regional Hospital, who provided years of care and friendship. A Celebration of Life for Peter will be held at Redstone Golf Course in Rossland, BC, on Sunday October 9, 2016, from 2-4 pm. All are welcome. In lieu of flowers, a donation to a charity of your choice would be appreciated.
