May 17, 1926 - Jan 17, 2018
Art died peacefully on January 17, 2018 at the age of 91, surrounded by family.

He is survived by his daughters Linda Hirtle (Rick), Sue (David Brown), and Mary-Kaye; grandchildren Stephanie, Megan, Alex, and Geoff; and niece Selina Buck and family. He was predeceased by his wife Mary in 2016.

Art was born and raised in Michel B.C. and came to Trail as a teacher in 1946, where he met his wife Mary. They married in 1950 and settled in Trail to raise their family. Art served as principal at 7 area schools throughout his 37 year career in education, and retired in 1982.

Art's retirement years were busy. He was involved in the community as a member of Kiwanis, the Trail Curling Club, the Trail Regional Library Board, the Kootenay Columbia branch of the B.C. Retired Teachers' Association, and the Kootenay Columbia Educational Heritage Society. Art enjoyed curling, gardening, and spending the summers boating and fishing at the family cottage on Kootenay Lake.

He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather, and was enormously proud of his family. He is much loved and will be deeply missed by all of us.

The family wishes to thank April Cashman and her staff who supported Art with care in his home, and also the team of health care workers at South Health Campus hospital in Calgary who provided Art with compassionate care and comfort during his final days.

As an expression of sympathy and in lieu of flowers, you may make a donation in Art's name to a charity of your choice.

A memorial service will be held in Trail in the spring.
