Robert William Dorey

November 2, 1951 - October 7, 2017

It is with deepest sorrow and heartbreak that we announce the sudden and unexpected passing of Robert "Rob" Dorey, a husband, father, grandfather ("Pop"), son, brother, uncle and friend on October 7th, 2017 at the age of 65.

Rob was born on November 2nd, 1951 in Rossland, B.C, where he was raised by his parents Will and Pat Dorey and with his two sisters Colleen and Cecilia. Rob met many lifelong friends while growing up in Rossland as well as the love of his life Donna Conci. He graduated from J.L Crowe and moved to Elkford, B.C where he and Donna were married on October 19, 1974. Rob and Donna moved back to Rossland in 1979, raised their daughter Melinda and made many amazing friends in Pinewood. In 2009, Rob and Donna moved to Trail, B.C where they continued to make happy memories with their grandkids, family and friends.

Rob was a hard-working, talented and accomplished man. His brilliance and passion for learning led him through many job titles throughout the years such as surveyor, machinist, millwright, trainer, technical writer, advisor and safety manager. He worked for, and contracted with, various companies including Fording Coal Ltd, Teck Cominco Ltd, Johnson Matthey Electronics Ltd, AMEC, HATCH Ltd and TR Canada. One of the highlights of Rob's career was in 2006 when he worked as a trainer and developer in Baku, Azerbaijan. Rob was a part of many major projects including the Waneta Hydro - Kearl Oil Sands - PCL Cory Project, Waneta Expansion Project, Endako Expansion Project, Mosaic K3 Project and finally the K+S Potash Canada Legacy Project before his retirement at the end of September 2017.

Rob's personality was larger than life and he will be remembered for his amazing sense of humour and wit. He had a thirst for knowledge and a love for history and could often be found reading the newspaper, a magazine or a local history book.

Rob loved music, whether that was playing in his high school band "The Velvet Pickle", attending concerts with his wife and daughter, or singing along with some of his favourite artists such as Dean Martin, Johnny Cash and the Beatles.

Rob loved learning about other cultures and enjoyed many years of travel, visiting such places as Hawaii, Belize, Mexico and Europe. He enjoyed nature and photography in which he won many awards for. He also loved all the family pets in his life including Pete, Nikki, Buddy, Kelsey and Ziggy. Rob was an outdoors man and enjoyed skiing, fishing, hunting, hiking and sitting by the campfire at Christina Lake. He never missed a sunrise or an opportunity to watch the stars.

Rob volunteered as a Patrol Leader for the Red Mountain Ski Patrol from 1978-1998, as well as a Program Coordinator and Search & Rescue Instructor for the Provincial Emergency Program from 1974-1980.
