Catherine “Ruth” Finlay passed away at home, surrounded by her three favourite men, on November 20, 2016 after a courageous battle with cancer. Ruth was born on June 27, 1944 in Trail, B.C., and spent her entire life in the community she adored.

Ruth had a great love for travel and treasured the 40 + summers spent at Christina Lake building memories with family and friends. She also enjoyed her 8 winters in Arizona where she made countless new friends from across the continent. Ruth had a passion for knitting, card making, doll making, Bingo, and playing the penny machines at the casino. By far Ruth’s greatest love was her grandchildren with whom she would spend countless hours playing cards, reading books, catching bad guys or whatever their dear hearts desired.

Ruth was a kind, gentle woman that touched the hearts of those around her and provided years of unconditional love and support to her family. She was a blessed soul that will be greatly missed.

Ruth is survived by her husband of 52 years Bob Finlay, children; Rick (Tracy) Finlay, Brian (April) Finlay, grandchildren; Jenna, Ricky, Nolan Finlay, brother; Ed (Joy) Glover, sister; Isabelle Donaldson, mother-in-law; Janet Finlay, brother-in-law; Murray (Jane) Finlay, sister-in-law; Janet (Mike) Mana, and many nieces and nephews.

Ruth was predeceased by her parents Charles and Janet Glover, father-in-law; Bob Finlay, brothers-in-law; Al Donaldson and Ken Finlay.

Alternatives Funeral and Cremation Services has been entrusted with the arrangements and cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Ruth’s Life will be held in the spring. As an expression of sympathy donations may be made in Ruth’s name to the Terry Fox Foundation, www.terryfox.org.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Dr. Smith, Dr. Scotland, Dr. Solano, Kelly and Ron from the Oncology department of the Kootenay Boundary Regional Hospital, Leah, Laura and the rest of the team from home support nursing for their exceptional and compassionate care of Ruth, and her family.
