March 25, 1931 – January 16, 2014

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, and nonno – Sam Mauro. He will be deeply missed by his wife Carmela, his sons Joe (Nicky) and Bruno (Claudia) and his grandchildren Alicia, Amanda, Mikaila, Tomas and Lisa. Sam will also be missed by extended family and friends in Canada and Italy.

Sam came to Canada from Grimaldi, Italy in 1951. After working at a variety of jobs, Sam worked for the Village of Warfield for 35 years until his retirement. Sam had gifted hands. His hobbies included woodwork, carving, rockwork, concrete forms and gardening. He was artistic and shortly before his passing, also developed an interest in learning to paint. Sam was a quiet, humble man, but in his unassuming ways he spoke volumes. He touched many lives in his own way and we will miss him greatly.

The family would like to thank Dr. Phillips, the wonderful home care nurses, the paramedics and firefighters and the caring staff of the Kootenay Boundary Regional Hospital.

There will be no service at this time. However, a funeral will be held on Saturday, May 3, 2014 at 10:00 am at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church. Jordan Wren of Alternatives Funeral and Cremation Services™ has been entrusted with arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to BC Children’s Hospital at 4480 Oak Street, Vancouver, BC, V6H 3V4 or to the BC Cancer Agency at 399 Royal Avenue, Kelowna, BC V1Y 5L3.
