Phyllis Vera (Schmidt) Sherwood, 86, passed away peacefully in her home June 2nd, 2017 surrounded by her family.

Phyllis was born in Medicine Hat, Alberta, where she spent her childhood and early adulthood. She moved to Nelson, BC to continue her work as a telephone operator and to help her parent’s run a store and cabins. It was in Nelson that Phyllis met her husband Arnie. Although Arnie’s work took them across BC early in their marriage, it was Rossland where they built their home and raised their family; Bob, Bill, Judy (Brian) Moroney, and Jennifer (Paul) Peterson.

Phyllis was a marriage commissioner in the Rossland/Trail area for over 25 years taking her all around the Kootenay’s, enjoying many memorable weddings and making lifelong friendships. Phyllis was busy with in home child care and was a big part of many of the children’s lives in Rossland and was loved by those she cared for, especially her grandchildren; Katie, Brenan, Ali, Trey, Emma and Nolan. Phyllis was a member of Royal Canadian Legion Ladies Auxiliary and spent many hours volunteering with the Legion.

Phyllis is predeceased by her parents Godlief and Bertha Schmidt, husband Arnold Sherwood, brothers, Len and Ken Schmidt, and sister Shirley Barber. She is survived by brother Allan Schmidt, her children and grandchildren.

At Phyllis’s request there will be no service. Bill Clark of Alternatives Funeral and Cremation Services™ has been entrusted with arrangements.
