June 6, 1929 – May 9, 2014

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Olive Ius on May 9, 2014 at Columbia View Lodge, in Trail.

Olive was born in London, England on June 6, 1929. She is survived by her husband, Dullio (Red), her brother-in-law Art (Judy) and eighteen nieces and nephews and their families. Olive was predeceased by her parents, Edward and Nora Morphy, her brother Peter and her sisters Noreen and Sheila, her sisters and brother-in-law Doreen and Fred, Esther and Isadore, Mary (Jim), Ruth (Art) and niece Rosana.

Olive left England and immigrated to Australia where she received her training as a Registered Nurse. In later years, her cousin invited Olive to Vancouver, Canada, as the medical profession was advertising for nurses. Upon answering the ad, she was hired and moved to Trail. While in Trail she worked in the hospital maternity ward, C.S. Williams Clinic and Cominco Safety & Medical Department.

Red and Olive met during a Silver City celebration dance at the Colombo Lodge and soon started golfing together. They were married on July 10, 1970.

Olive has done volunteer work with Meals on Wheels, Hospice care to the palliative and delivered library books to the sick and shut-ins.

Red would like to thank Dr. A Jenkins, Dr. Grey and the nursing staff at the Kootenay Boundary Regional Hospital and Columbia View Lodge for the excellent care given to Olive during her illness.

A Memorial Mass will be held on Thursday, May 15, 2014 at 10:30 am at Holy Trinity Parish with Father Jim McHugh, Celebrant. Al Grywacheski of Alternatives Funeral and Cremation Services™ has been entrusted with arrangements.

As an expression of sympathy, donations in Olive’s name may be made to the BC Heart and Stroke Foundation at 4 - 1551 Sutherland Avenue, Kelowna, BC, V1Y 9M9 or the Canadian Cancer Society at 908 Rossland Avenue, Trail, BC, V1R 3N6.
