After a month of locals voting for their favourite businesses/organizations from Rossland to Trail and the Beaver Valley, the Trail and District Chamber of Commerce awarded the winners at the 2024 Business Excellence Awards Saturday night (June 1).
Held in The Josie Hotel, by all accounts the night was full of energy, accompanied by a top-notch meal.
Phil Loosley, owner and facilitator of LightSwitch Consulting, keep the room engaged in his role as emcee.
In all were 12 categories.
Awarded Business of the Year was Thea Hanson, of Thea Hanson Real Estate.
This award recognizes Thea Hanson Real Estate as a business whose commitment to overall best business practices, customer service, employee relations, superior marketing and social media strategies, and positive public image is exemplary. As Business of the Year, Hanson is recognized for her approach to business and service to the community.
Awarded Business Person of the Year Award was Rich and Annie Murphy, owners of the Trail Smoke Eaters.
The Murphys (unable to attend event) are recognized for setting an example as dedicated business leaders, projecting a positive image in the community.
Awarded Employer of the Year was Kootenay Savings Credit Union.
This business is described as “where everyone wants to work. A business that goes above and beyond for their employees and demonstrates outstanding leadership in the workplace.”
Other winners include: Charitable Organization Award, Trail’s IncrEDIBLE Farmers Market; Retail Award, Coast 2 Coast Clothing Co.; Professional Service Award, Elite Physiotherapy; Customer Service Award, Barks and Recreation; Community Impact Award, Happy Hills Farm; Go Green Award, Earthy Organics; Tourism Award, Glenmerry Bowl; Excellence Under 40 Award, Kurtis MacGillvray, Trail No Frills; and Emerging Entrepreneur Award, Leanne Ellis, Kootenay Made Co.
