A cold beer and wine store that focuses on uncorking specialty wines in Greater Trail has opened up its doors.
The Warfield Liquor Store is having its grand opening this Friday and Saturday, when suppliers will be on hand to talk about their products all while pouring tasters for curious customers.
Featured on the “under $30 over 90” wall, customers can find wine that has been awarded over 90 points but for an affordable price, like a Serafino Cabernet Sauvignon from Australia, a petit verdot from Australia’s Pirramimma and Vistalba, a tinta roriz from Argentina.
Beyond wine, the cold beer and wine sells a portion of the “coldest beer running at about 33 degrees,” spirits, specialty scotch and vodka and a number of products – from Limoncello, grappa and Punch Abruzzo – for the local Italian community.
Warren Hamm, former owned the Rock Cut Pub in Rossland, decided to buy into the business when the location that used to house the Warfield Food Mart became available on the market.
Prior to his move to the food and beverage industry, Hamm worked as a helicopter engineer but decided to make the leap into a different field when he wanted to settle locally and raise a family.
“With the changes to the drinking and driving law, HST and just the general cost of going out, the trend has moved toward spending more time at home,” he said. “We’ve had an overwhelming positive response from our neighbours close by, who are quite pleased they can walk down and grab a bottle of wine or six pack.”
Though initially there was some concern of two cold beer and wines stores operating nearby, Hamm said the community has been extremely supportive on his newest venture.
To coincide with the new store, Fas Gas next door is now open until 10 p.m.
Located at 499 Schofield Highway, Warfield Liquor Store is open everyday from 9 a.m. until 11 p.m. and can be reached at 368-3388.
