A revamped interactive kiosk at the Trail Memorial Centre gives residents the opportunity to learn more about the Home of the Champions with a touch of a screen.

Whether it’s reading about the last amateur Canadian team to win the world championship or individuals and groups from Greater Trail who have excelled, Trail’s rich history can easily be found at the kiosk located in the Sports Hall of Memories.

“We were really limited here in terms of what we can do with interpretation,” said Sarah Benson of the Trail Historical Society. “But not anymore.”

The collection of memorabilia in the hall of memories does draw a crowd, she said, but the addition of the educational tool highlights the value of the society’s “flag ship collection.”

New to the display is the World Cup, which was donated before Trail held the  “Spirit of ’61” in recognition of the 50th anniversary of the team’s seminal win at the world hockey championships.

Visitors are encouraged to stop into the memorial centre and check out the new navigating tool, which replaces a 10-year-old machine.

The original kiosk was unveiled in conjunction with the 50th anniversary of the Trail Memorial Centre in 1999.

Beyond a new touch monitor and mini Mac, the kiosk operates on intelligent software that is dependable and can be managed from a remote area.

With help from Kale Stanchuk from Ten Twenty-Three Media, the kiosk is up and running after the old one was removed about five months ago.

The revamped stand was made possible with a $3,000 contribution from Teck and $1,500 from the Columbia Kootenay Cultural Alliance.

Residents can also view the contents on the kiosk from home at www.trailsportshistory.ca
