Blankets made with care by many hands, were recently donated to Sanctuary Pre-Teen Centre in downtown Trail. The Tuesday Morning Quilters crafted four quilts and one fleece blanket for the centre’s children to use when watching TV or if they are feeling a little under the weather. Tuesday Morning Quilters started charitable donations in 2005 with a total of $200 going to two groups.

Since then the sewing circle has increased the amount of donations and recipients in accordance with profits from its annual quilt show and tea.

By 2015 the quilters were able to donate $2,750 in support of seven local charities. In the past three years, donations have risen to $4,100 annually.

“Because of the great community support we receive at our annual quilt show, we have been able to continue supporting groups such as Trail United Church Food Bank, Kate’s Kitchen, Women in Need, Christmas Tree at Ferraro’s grocery store, Camp Koolaree and the Anglican Church Food Program,” says quilter Carol Babcock.

Ongoing projects for the Tuesday Morning Quilters include:

• Chemo caps, which are made and given to Kootenay Boundary Regional Hospital (KBRH) for women who are going through chemotherapy.

• Heart pillows, made by one member, to give to KBRH patients who have had a mastectomy. To date, 240 pillows have been donated.

• Baby and mother quilts are given to the first baby born each year at KBRH

• Tuesday Morning Quilters also donate quilts to groups and facilities such as Poplar Ridge Pavilion, Columbia View Lodge, Sanctuary, WINS and Building Beautiful Babies.

• In 2018 several quilts were donated to the Grand Forks flood relief fund to be given to families who lost their belongings in the flooding.
