A little bit of rain wasn’t going to dampen the holiday spirit for a team of volunteers that showed up on Saturday to help decorate Trail’s downtown core.

Students from the J.L. Crowe Interact Club joined hands with city councillors and Trail Community in Bloom to decorate for the Silver City Nites festival, slated for Dec 7.

“All of you should feel very proud when you pass through the city and see the beautiful decorations, that you played a big part in,” said Eleanor Gattafoni, city councillor, at the post decoration pizza party.

The decorations will set the scene for the fourth annual Silver City Nites. This year’s theme of decor is Victorian inspired.

The festival is a chance to celebrate winter while encouraging residents to gather downtown to support local business.

That night, part of Cedar Avenue will be closed to traffic to make way for the Candy Parade and tree lighting ceremony. Downtown shops will be open late for holiday shopping deals, and the United Steelworkers for Local 480 will be on site serving up free hot chocolate and hot dogs.
