How can you resist? Crowe Players go live this week with ‘Mamma Mia’

Mamma Mia runs for two nights; Friday, June 7, and Saturday, June 8

Mamma Mia, here we go again …

Another year has flown by, and as high school graduation nears, it’s time for the JL Crowe Players to bring their talent to the stage in a lighthearted year-end performance.

You guessed it — this year’s musical play, Mamma Mia, features the music of ABBA in an adaptation of the 2008 musical romantic comedy film of the same name.

The story takes place on a mythical Greek island in present day, and centers around a young girl named Sophie, played by Grade 12 student Leah McNair.

Sophie is marrying her fiancé, Sky, played by Grade 10 student, James Langille.

Sophie dreams of a white wedding, with her father giving her away at the altar. Problem is, she doesn’t know who her dad is. And, wouldn’t you know it, she’s getting married the next day.

Her mother, Donna, an independent hotelier in the Greek islands, is played by Grade 12 student Setareh Roshdi Benam.

Donna is preparing for Sophie’s wedding with the help of two old friends; Tanya, played by Grade 11 student Arwynn McKenzie, and Rosie, played by Grade 12 student Chloe Thompson.

Meanwhile, in hopes of discovering her real father’s identity, Sophie has secretly invited three men from her mother’s past: Sam, played by Grade 11 student Oliver Mamon; Bill, played by Grade 12 student Brady Mailey; and Harry, played by Grade 11 student Richard Rafter-Olsen.

Let the hijinks ensue.

Mamma Mia runs for two nights; Friday, June 7, and Saturday, June 8.

Show time both nights is 7 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.

Reserved seating, adults $20, students $16.

Doors open 60 minutes before show time.

Tickets purchased online or by phone may be picked up at the box office in the hour before the show, or in advance weekdays between noon and 4 p.m.

The JL Crowe Debate Club will be operating a concession during intermission.
