‘The Subtle Body’ opens Friday at the VISAC Gallery

Events include VISAC Gallery's "The Subtle Body", Compassionate Friends of the Kootenays' 3rd Annual Walk to Remember and more.

Gallery

• The VISAC Gallery presents “The Subtle Body” by Barbara Maye, her collection of work celebrating the human body. The exhibition opens Friday and Maye will be conducting an introductory drawing workshop June 2-3, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the gallery. The fee is $175 and the registration deadline is May 28. Regular gallery hours are Mon. to Wed, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and Th-Fri, 2 - 6 p.m..

• On Saturday the Compassionate Friends of the Kootenays is hosting their third annual Walk To Remember and Balloon Release. Meet at Gyro Park in Trail at 10 a.m. with a walk to Sunningdale and balloon release (balloons provided). The Compassionate Friends of Canada is an international self-help support group for parents and families who have a lost a child from any cause at any age. • Montrose Family Fun Days kicks off Saturday with the Antenna Trail hike and pancake breakast at 8 a.m. Baseball games, good food to follow, and of course the parade at 11 a.m. Kids will enjoy the water park and carnival games under the big top at Bernie McMahon Park. The always popular East vs West ball game goes at 1 p.m., while Bingo in the Montrose Hall starts calling numbers at 1:30 p.m. Be sure to get a ticket to the best deal in town - the steak dinner with all the fixings for only $14 begins serving at 4:30 p.m.

Smoke n’ Steel’s fourth annual Cruisin the Columbia car show revs its engines Saturday at Gyro Park. Check out some vintage wheels and unique rides, the event starts at 10 a.m. and runs to 3 p.m.

• On Sunday the Columbia Canoe and Kayak Club is hosting a paddle on the Creston Marches between the Creston Wildlife Center and Duck Lake. The trip is an easy 4-5 hour paddle with lots of opportunity to see the abundant bird and wildlife along the way. For more information contact Michael McMann at 365-5647.

• The Alliance Church is offering a “Meeting Place” every Tuesday afternoon from 1-4 p.m. where adults meet to visit, play games, do crafts and socialize. 3365 Laburnum Dr. everyone welcome. Call 368-9516 for more info.

• The Kootenay Savings Music in the Park concert season gets underway June 14 at 7 p.m. with the Trail Maple Leaf Band. All concerts are at Gyro Park. Admission to the Trail District Arts Council series is by donation.

• The acclaimed production of “Best Exotic Marigold Hotel,” opens at the Royal Theatre June 15 until June 21, with show times Friday and Saturday 7 and 9:15 p.m., Saturday and Sunday matinees at 2 p.m., and shows Sun-Thurs. at 7 p.m.

• The Village of Warfield is celebrating its 60th anniversary of incorporation June 16. The Warfield community day will start with the pancake breakfast in the Community Hall from 7-11 am (served by KSCU staff). 
All the fun events, Community Market and entertainment will happen at Webster School from Noon - 3 p.m.
