Site fencing is now in place around 901 Helena St., in downtown Trail.

Site fencing is now in place around 901 Helena St., the old CS Williams Clinic,  as hazardous materials abatement begins on two key downtown properties scheduled for demolition, the City of Trail confirmed Monday.

Local Industrial Partners Ltd., based in Genelle, has installed perimeter fencing along Helena Street, enclosing the sidewalk and parking stalls next to the building.

The fencing secures the work zone and ensures public safety while crews carry out the first phase of the project.

Kinetic Environmental, a subcontractor for Local Industrial, has started hazardous materials abatement at the site.

According to the city, this phase will continue through mid-July.

No changes to the current fencing layout are expected during that time.

Hazardous materials are being safely contained, loaded into bins, and removed from the site according to provincial regulations, the city said.

Frequent bin service is in place to support this process and to prevent any risk to the public.

The abatement and demolition of the former CS Williams Clinic and the former Towne Square Mall at 900 Spokane St. were awarded to Local Industrial Partners earlier this year.

Both properties were listed as areas of focus in the City of Trail’s 2024–2026 Strategic Priorities due to safety concerns and the presence of hazardous materials.

Once cleared, the sites are expected to offer opportunities for new development.
