Black bears are excellent swimmers: they have even been spotted swimming across the Columbia River in Trail.
They are known to swim long distances, often across lakes and rivers, in search of food, to escape danger, or to travel to different areas.
Their strong limbs and large paws make them well-suited for swimming, allowing them to navigate water with ease.
