Beaver Valley Nitehawks goalie Connor Stojan stopped 32 shots and Ollie Clement scored the game winning goal in a 1-0 overtime shutout of the Castlegar Rebels on Saturday, Jan. 11.

Much to the dismay of the hometown Castlegar crowd, Rossland product Clement tallied his 15th goal and 25th point of the season on a set up from Jack Bodel and Connor Drake 2:41 into the overtime period.

The win Saturday, and a Friday night 5-3 victory over the Nelson Leafs, improves the Nitehawks road record to 13-4-2-0, and its overall stats to 22-9-3-0, good for a share of first place in the Neil Murdoch Division.

The Rebels outshot the Nitehawks 32-25, but both Stojan and Rebels goalie Mason Hillier were unbeatable through 60 minutes.

Stojan was particularly sensational in the second period, when the Rebels outshot B.V. 13-5 but could not capitalize.

B.V. went 0-for-5 on the power play, while Castlegar was 0-for-4.

On Friday, the Nitehawks went to Nelson for a tilt against Neil Murdoch division rival Leafs.

Brady Magarrell scored the eventual game winner 3:09 into the third period to give B.V. a 4-2 lead. Magarrell's goal was his 17th of the season, with assists to Ethan Bloomquist and Trail product Joel Smyth.

Despite outshooting the Leafs 17-3 in the opening frame the game remained scoreless. But the Nitehawks found their range and went up 3-0 in the second period on goals from Bodel, Jonas Bourchier, and Hunter Hansen.

The Leafs scratched their way back on tallies from Ty Nykyforuk and Julian Laqua, bringing the Leafs to within one.

But Magarell's game winner and an insurance marker from Joel Smyth, who pitched in with a goal and two assists on the night, made it 5-2 Hawks.

The Leafs' Leighton Partington scored a late power play goal to make the final 5-3.

Beaver Valley outshot Nelson 43-20, with Landan Uzeloc earning the win. B.V. was 0-for-2 on the power play, and 6-for-7 on the penalty kill.

The Nitehawks are back in action at the Hawks Nest this weekend with division battles against the Rebels on Friday, Jan. 17 and the Spokane Braves on Saturday, Jan. 18 at 7 p.m.
