A gutsy effort came up short as the Beaver Valley Nitehawks fell to the league's number-1 team at the Hawks Nest on Saturday, after a 4-1 home win over the Golden Rockets Friday.

The Princeton Posse came back from a 2-0 first period deficit, scoring three unanswered to beat B.V. 3-2 and keep a tight grasp on the top spot in the KIJHL.

Princeton forward Tyson Horiachka scored the game winner on a power-play with 6:36 left in regulation to complete the comeback and break a 2-2 tie.

The Posse improve to 14-1-0-1on the season for 29 points and the best record in the KI, while the Nitehawks are tied for first place in the Neil Murdoch division with the Grand Forks Border Bruins at 10-3-1-0.

The Nitehawks Roan Crowe capitalized on the power play early, beating Posse goalie Blake Sittler 6:26 into the opening frame for a 1-0 lead.

Nitehawks' Mason Dixon and Hunter Hansen set up Jonas Bourchier seven minutes later to make it 2-0 on another power play opportunity.

That was the last one Sittler would allow, as B.V. outshot the Princeton 21-9 in the first period.

The Posse's Jeffery Stewart scored with less than five minutes left in the middle frame to cut the lead to one. Posse forward Brennan Watterson tied it at 7:18 of the third, and less than a minute later Horiachka tallied his seventh of the season for the game winner.

Princeton outshot Beaver Valley 43-40, and went 1-for-3 on the power play, while the Nitehawks were 2-for-6.

On Friday, Bourchier scored the game winner 3:37 into the third period on a set up from Hansen and Kai Hollowchuk, to give the Nitehawks a 2-1 lead.

After a scoreless first period, the Rockets Chaz Jaeb beat B.V. goalie Landan Uzeloc 2:13 into the second to go up 1-0.

B.V.'s Owen Dickson tied it, finishing a set up from Connor Drake and Ryan Neufeld on the power play midway through the middle frame.

Following Bourchier's game winner, newly acquired defenceman Brett Moch wired his first goal as a Nitehawk past the Golden goalie for a 3-1 lead.

The Nitehawks added the 18-year-old Lethbridge product to their roster on Oct. 27 from the Kimberley Dynamiters. Moch is a six-foot-two, 200-pound blue liner whose size, mobility, and hard shot caught B.V. coach's Terry Jones attention at the Nitehawks Spring Camp.

Nitehawks forward Ollie Clement tallied his seventh of the season, scoring a short-handed goal with 1:20 left to play for the 4-1 final.

B.V. outshot the Rockets 33-23, and went 2-for-6 on the power play, and 5-for-5 on the penalty kill.

The Nitehawks are home again next weekend and will host the Kimberley Dynamiters, the top team in the Eddie Mountain division, on Friday at 7 p.m.

The Dynamiters are a force again this year, and have amassed a 13-2-1-0 record, which includes a 5-2 victory over the Nitehawks on Oct. 12 at the Kimberley Civic Centre.

B.V. has won four of their last five, and is 5-1-1-0 at home, while Kimberley is 4-1-0-0 on the road so far this season.

On Saturday, the Nitehawks will host the 6-7-1-0 Osoyoos Coyotes at the Hawks Nest at 7 p.m.
