Catch the rhythm tonight at Gyro Park in Trail

Show starts at 6:15 p.m. at Gyro Park in East Trail

Juno nominated percussionist Robin Layne and The Rhythm Makers are bringing their groove to Trail for tonight’s Music in the Park.

With roots in rhythmic traditions from around the globe, Robin Layne and the Rhythm Makers’ music is described as “blurring the lines between jazz and folk as they carve out new territory for the marimba.”

Since their debut release “Memories” in 2018, the group-of-five has been making a name for themselves on the festival circuit.

The Rhythm Makers are: Daniel Ruiz on drums, Jocelyn Waugh on trumpet, Liam MacDonald on percussion and Wynston Minckler on bass.

Frontman Robin Layne, a freelance percussionist for recordings and performances, has toured nationally and internationally. As well as performing, Layne is a senior percussion instructor at the Sarah McLachlan School of Music and the Artistic Director of the World Rhythms for Youth Society.

Opening the night at 6:15 p.m. are KNS, a high energy acoustic duo featuring locals Stew Ford and Kelly Waite.

Playing upbeat covers and original material, KNS often takes inspiration from Eighties rock.

Admission is by donation – $3 minimum suggested.

Don’t forget to bring a lawn chair.

The last Music in the Park is a Night Market on Aug. 15, with music from Maritime Kitchen Party, Stubbs And The, and drumming workshops with Rhythm By Nature.

A collaboration with Trail’s Incredible Farmers Market, this high energy event brings the community together for music and food from 5 p.m. to 8:30 pm.

Shows are moved indoors if the weather is not cooperative.

Check the art council’s Facebook page by 2 p.m. on Thursday for the exact location.
