Ahead of the April 28 federal election, Black Press conducted phone interviews with candidates running in the Columbia-Kootenay-Southern Rockies riding. Each interview included questions about two general topics and one about their party. These questions were not disclosed in advance. The candidates were also given the opportunity to speak on a bonus topic of their choice.
Laurie Baird, the People's Party of Canada candidate for the Columbia-Kootenay-Southern Rockies riding, declined to be interviewed before Black Press's deadline because she said she was preparing for party leader Maxime Bernier's visit to Kamloops, Summerland and Osoyoos.
Baird, who does not live in the area and replaced previously announced candidate Andrew Skinner, directed Black Press staff to the party's platform, which she said she supports.
