Skywatchers in the Kootenays and beyond can look forward to a breathtaking lunar display tonight as the May full moon — known as the Flower Moon — rises into view.
This celestial event takes its name from the abundance of wildflowers that typically bloom during this time of year.
The Flower Moon reached full illumination at 12:56 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time (9:56 a.m. Pacific) on Monday, May 12, while it remained below the horizon for most of North America.
However, the real show begins this evening, as the full moon makes a dramatic entrance over the southeastern horizon around 8:30 p.m. local time.
Clear skies will offer the best view of the glowing orb as it ascends into the night sky.
Missed it?
Don’t worry — the moon will continue to appear full to the casual eye for the next night or two, offering more chances to take in the seasonal spectacle.
