Unless you’re a Christmasophile, you might not realize that Christmas is just 76 days away.

Unless you’re a true Christmas enthusiast, you might not realize that Christmas is just 76 days away.

That’s why the local volunteer group, Adopt A Senior Trail and Area, is asking community members to consider donating now to help brighten the holidays for local seniors.

“We want to start spreading the word earlier this year,” says Jennifer Williams, the organizer of the group, which has been supporting local seniors with holiday gifts for the past four years.

“Our group sponsors seniors in the area, providing them with thoughtful gifts for the holidays,” she explains.

“Many of these seniors either have no family nearby or no family at all. Some live independently in the community, but most are in care facilities.”

Without help from the community, Williams emphasizes, the project wouldn’t be possible.

There are several ways to contribute:

Monetary donations: A receipt will be provided, and volunteers will use the funds to purchase gifts.

Item donations: Donors can provide specific items that will be included in the gift packages.

Adopt a Senior: Visit the group’s Facebook page to select a senior to sponsor. A budget of $60 per senior is set, and donors are asked to shop from a list of needed items.

“While donations remain anonymous to the seniors for confidentiality reasons, I can assure you, the joy these gifts bring is incredible,” says Williams.

Last year, the group delivered over 425 gifts to seniors at Poplar Ridge, Columbia View Lodge, Chateau Manor, Rose Wood Village, and throughout the community.

“We would love to have your support,” Williams adds. “Thank you kindly for considering a donation.”

All donations must be submitted by Dec. 8 to allow enough time for organizing and distribution.
