Green spaces around the city are thriving, thanks to the hands-on work of Trail Community in Bloom (CiB) volunteers and the leadership of local garden contractor Rachael Brown.
With Communities in Bloom in full swing, the Trail CiB team is focused on making Jubilee Park shine, and calling on the community to help.
This Thursday, July 3, volunteers are invited to join a morning work party at Jubilee Park, located next to the Riverfront Centre.
The upkeep session runs from 7:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and will focus on weeding, deadheading, vine stringing, and general beautification efforts.
“If you’ve got a favourite weeding tool or a trusty pair of gloves, bring them along,” Brown says.
“But don’t worry if you don’t, we’ll have a few extras on hand.”
Volunteers are reminded to dress for the weather and come ready to get a little dirty in the name of community pride.
This year, the national Communities in Bloom initiative is shining a spotlight on "Edible Gardens."
Growing food isn’t just about harvesting tomatoes or beans, CiB says, it’s a way to strengthen neighbourhoods, promote sustainability, and support food security.
Edible landscapes are meant to connect people to the land and to one another.
