Kootenay Boundary businesses and nonprofits rally for Pledge Day

“Light Up the Hospitals! Pledge Day,” held on Dec. 6 at Waneta Plaza in Trail, raised an impressive $250,000, with $230,000 earmarked specifically for the Kootenay Boundary Regional Hospital (KBRH) Health Foundation’s Orthopedic Enhancement Project.

This $230,000 contribution was matched dollar-for-dollar by B.C. philanthropist Jim Pattison, doubling the amount to $460,000 for advancing orthopedic care at KBRH.

“This year’s Pledge Day has been extraordinary — not just for the $250,000 raised for the Orthopedic Enhancement Project and multiple departments across our facilities, but for the profound impact it has had on our community,” shares Lisa Pasin, executive director, KBRH Health Foundation.

“Jim Pattison’s transformational $250,000 matching commitment inspired an incredible outpouring of generosity and community spirit.

“The heartfelt thanks and tributes to Mr. Pattison throughout the day reminded us all of the power of giving and the positive change it can create.

“This support will make a lasting impact at Kootenay Boundary Regional Hospital and has truly inspired our community to step up and give back.”

Donations to the orthopedic campaign, made through to the end of the giving season on Dec. 31, will continue to be matched, effectively doubling their impact.

“If you weren’t able to donate on Pledge Day, you can still give this December to help meet the full matching donation for orthopedics or support your preferred department or facility,” Pasin adds.

“On behalf of the KBRH Health Foundation and all those who will benefit, thank you.”

Leading up to Pledge Day, the KBRH Health Foundation announced a $250,000 matching pledge from Pattison toward the orthopedic campaign.

Funds will be used to acquire state-of-the-art medical equipment that will enable groundbreaking procedures, such as total ankle replacements and same-day discharge for hip and knee surgeries.

The campaign also aims to equip the hospital’s orthopedic surgical team, including newly recruited and long-standing specialists, with advanced tools and technology, enhancing their ability to deliver first-rate care to local patients.
