A strong contingent of Greater Trail pickleball players mounted the podium at the 2024 Pickleball Canada Western Regional Championships in Vernon, July 25-28.
In all, 13 players from the Trail area participated in the event, joining 626 registered competitors from across B.C., Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, and Yukon.
The event used 24 indoor and outdoor courts, with games played from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily.
The West Kootenay team performed well, bringing home a total of 12 medals including three gold, six silver and three bronze.
Greater Trail winners include Brenda Nedelc who captured gold in Women’s Singles and Christine Wayling bronze.
Steve Johnson and Kevin Thomas teamed up for Men’s Doubles gold, while Darrell St. Denis and Pat Vlanich took silver in Men’s Doubles.
Kevin Thomas and Frances Lloyd earned silver in Mixed Doubles, and Steve Johnson and Wanda Flack also took silver in their respective category of Mixed Doubles.
Christine Wayling and Tanis Bouchier earned bronze in Women’s Doubles.
