This past week in the Kootenay Savings Super League, sponsored by KSCU, featured two close games and two decisive victories.
The match between Team Don Freschi and Team Nando Salviulo started tightly before Team Freschi pulled away.
Team Salviulo played a clean 1st end, resulting in a blank, but early misses in the 2nd allowed Team Freschi to steal three. In the 3rd, Skip Salviulo attempted a delicate chip for four but settled for one. The 4th end saw Team Salviulo tie the game at 3 with a steal of two. However, the momentum shifted in the 5th when Skip Salviulo’s final draw stayed straight, chipping in a Freschi stone and giving Skip Freschi an open draw for five. A large steal in the 6th sealed an 11-3 victory for Team Freschi.
Team Bartlett Excavating, skipped by Deane Horning, dominated Team Marcus Partridge. After conceding a steal of one in the 1st, Skip Horning drew to the button for two in the 2nd. Skip Partridge tied it with an open hit for one in the 3rd, but Team Bartlett secured a deuce in the 4th, followed by a decisive steal of three in the 5th. The game ended 13-2 when Skip Partridge’s final draw against six fell short in the 6th.
Team Ken Fines and Team Jill Winters played an exciting game. Skip Winters opened with a draw for two in the 1st, matched by Skip Fines in the 2nd. Team Fines stole three in the 3rd after Skip Winters’ final draw overcurled. They extended their lead with a deuce in the 5th, forcing Team Winters to singles in the 4th and 6th. Down 7-4, Team Winters mounted a comeback, stealing two in the 7th and one in the 8th after Skip Fines’ final rock rolled too far, resulting in a dramatic 7-7 tie.
Team Ken Coles narrowly defeated Team Sandra Meger in another close match. Team Meger forced Team Coles to one in the 1st, then blanked the 2nd and scored one in the 3rd. A steal of two in the 4th gave Team Meger the lead, but Skip Coles executed a brilliant double for three in the 5th. A steal of two in the 6th put Team Coles in control, and despite Team Meger scoring two in the 7th and pressuring in the 8th, Skip Coles secured a 7-6 victory with a clutch angle raise.
Team Myron Nichol had the bye.
