In celebration of International Credit Union Day on Oct. 17, staff from the Trail and Fruitvale branches of Kootenay Savings Credit Union donated $588 to the Trail Fire Fighter’s Local 941 and $550 to the Fruitvale food bank.
They previously donated $850 to the Orthopaedic Enhancement Project at Kootenay Boundary Regional Hospital in recognition of the same day.
These donations were raised through the branches’ “Care Wear” initiative, which began in 2004.
The program allows Kootenay Savings employees and directors to dress casually each Friday (or Thursday for International Credit Union Day) in exchange for a $1 contribution, with donations matched by the Kootenay Savings Community Foundation.
Each year, the funds raised are donated to local charities.
This year, $21,428 will be distributed to 26 organizations.
“On behalf of Kootenay Savings, thank you for all the work you do to give back to our communities,” said the credit union staff.
