Team Partridge skip Marcus had the hot hand and knocked off one of the league's top teams, Team Nichol, on Thursday at the Trail Curling Centre.

Kootenay Savings Super League opened its second half of the season with some surprising wins over the top seeds.

Bartlett Contracting, skipped by Devo Devine, and Team Nando Salviulo played to an exciting finish. Skip Devo was left with an impossible shot in the 1st, giving up a steal of two, then rebounded with an open draw for three in the 2nd.

It was a defensive battle for the next five ends as Team Salviulo were forced to take one in the 3rd and 6th ends, while Team Bartlett took singles in the 4th and 7th ends with a blank in 4 to be one up coming home without. The 8th end saw everything go Team Salviulos way, as Skip Nando didn't have to throw his last rock, already sitting a game winning five, for the 9-5 Team Salviulo win.

In a surprise result, Team Marcus Partridge bludgeoned first place Team Myron Nichol in 6 ends. Skip Marcus made two perfect shots in the 1st, a hit n roll to the covered button, followed by a freeze draw on top of shot rock, leading to a steal of two. Another crowded, guarded house produced another steal of two in the 2nd. Team Nichol got on the board with an open draw for one in the 3rd, then watched as Team Partridge pulled away with a field goal in the 4th, followed by more steals in the 5th and 6th ends, for the 10-1 drubbing.

Team Ken Fines had their hands full with newcomer Team Sandra Meger. Team Meger forced Team Fines to a single in the 1st, then manufactured a deuce in the 2nd. Team Fines put up their own deuce in 3, then stole a single in the 4th for the early 4-2 lead. Team Meger roared right back with another deuce in 5, then took the slim lead with a steal of one in 6. Team Fines broke the game open with a huge five in the 7th, before running Team Meger out of rocks in the 8th, to close out the hard fought 9-5 win.

In the final match, Team Don Freschi, skipped by Richard Faunt, took on Team Jill Winters. Team Freschi looked like they were cruising to an easy win, stealing two in the 1st, one in 2 followed by another steal of two in the 3rd, and were sitting one buried in the 4th before Skip Winters made two fabulous take-outs threw the narrowest of ports to count a huge four in the 4th.

Team Winters kept the momentum going, forcing Skip Faunt to make a hit n stay for one against three in the 5th. Team Freschi stole a single in the 6th, then were lucky to only give up a single in the 7th, before taking another single in 8, for the exciting 8-5 win.
